Getting Enough Iron

The human body’s need for iron is well understood . Without iron, our bodies could not synthesize hemoglobin, the protein-iron compound found in the blood responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs for cleansing. Iron also plays a key role in the essential enzyme activity of every cell in the human body. Standard Process has developed a whole food supplement which includes not only iron, but also vitamin C and B12 to assist with iron absorption. This supplement is called Ferrofood.

“How much iron an individual needs on a daily basis to maintain optimal health depends upon many factors. Similar to calcium, iron absorption depends on its source and the combination of nutrients ingested at the same time. In addition to absorption considerations, our individual need for iron fluctuates under circumstances such as pregnancy, menstruation, growth periods, weight loss, gender and age.

Iron is needed to deliver oxygen to red blood cells. Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutrient-related conditions among infants, young children, women and the elderly. The amount of iron we get from foods we eat coupled with an increased need for iron we actually absorb, which can leave us at risk for developing anemia. In order for vitamins and minerals to work properly, they must be consumed in a balanced fashion. The variety of ingredients in Ferrofood are combined to promote a consistent amount of iron along with complimentary nutrients, such as vitamin C, that aid in iron absorption. The vitamin B12 from alfalfa and bovine liver works along with iron to encourage healthy red blood cell formation.” – Ferrofood Product Detail Sheet

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a nutritional compound we hear a lot about. If you start to get a cough or cold, the first piece of advice you’ll receive is “be sure you’re getting enough vitamin C!” In addition to providing immune support, Vitamin C also maintains healthy muscle and skeletal function, keeps your heart healthy and provides strong antioxidant protection. Many of the Vitamin C complexes available over the coutner are synthetic and not very bioavailable. Standard Process has developed a whole food supplement for Vitamin C called Cataplex C.

“Vitamin C is an important nutritional compound essential for supporting the immune, cardiovascular, endocrine, musculoskeletal, and hematopoietic systems. Vitamin C is supported in these roles by other ingredients of Cataplex C, including veal bone PMG extract, dried alfalfa juice, echincea, and rice bran. These ingredients work together by providing a variety of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids in properly balanced, physiological ratios.” – Cataplex C product detail sheet

Emotional & Psychological Well Being

Well-being is about more than physical health alone. It is also about psychological and emotional health. More and more researchers are helping us understand the role that emotional and psychological stress can have on our bodies and overall health. Unfortunately, the number of people being affected by conditions such as depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is on the rise.  Currently, an estimated 15 million people are affected by some degree of mood change and the numbers continue to grow. Because what we eat has an enormous impact on our brain function, nutritional deficiencies will affect our ability to process and cope with difficult emotions. Standard Process has developed a whole food supplement specifically designed to assist with emotional and psychological health called Min-Tran.

“Feelings of sadness or emotional turmoil can occur when the mechanism in the brain designed to adjust mood in response to different degrees of stress, fails to respond. Since the brain is an intricate and complicated organ that requires a number of nutrients in order to function properly, diet greatly influences the brain’s ability to function at optimal capacity. The mineral complexes found in Min-Tran support nervous system health and help stabilize levels of important neurotransmitters that are associated with mood. Min-Tran, a natural calmative, can help create and sustain a more tranquil mood on the inside to help keep reactions to life’s challenges on the outside in greater balance.” - Min-Tran Product Detail Sheet

Support for Healthy Digestion

Has a health care provider ever told you that while taking antibiotics you should also eat yogurt? Have you ever wondered why that is? The reason is that not all bacteria are bad. In fact, some bacteria are essential for healthy digestion. Unfortunately it’s not only antibiotics that can deplete your intestinal flora – many of the highly processed foods we eat every day can wreak havoc as well! Standard Process has produced a supplement – Prebiotic Inulin – that can assist in rebuilding the intestinal flora and support overall digestive health.

“Prebiotic Inulin supports bone health, immune function and gut balance by providing a favorable environment for your intestinal microflora.  Prebiotics are food (carbohydrates) that feed the good bacteria in the gut. They promote a favorable environment for the growth of native flora . . . (Inulin) is broken down by a fermentation process in the colon. This fermentation process promotes the growth of friendly intestinal microflora. This product contains Inulin, Calcium and Magnesium.” – Prebiotic Inulin Product Detail Sheet

USF Ointment For Soft & Healthy Skin

During the winter months many people struggle with dry, cracked or sensitive skin. The skin is the largest organ of the human body and it is our first line of defense from disease, infection and injury. Repeated exposed to air pollutants, beauty products, soaps or harsh weather (especially during the cold winter), can cause the skin to become irritated which makes us more susceptible to infection. Maintaing a healthy diet, drinking plenty of  fluids and getting regular exercise are excellent ways to keep the skin healthy and vibrant – but sometimes they are not enough on their own. Many of the lotions and hand creams being sold today contain chemicals or fragrances that can actually cause further damage to the skin. Standard Process has developed a product – USF Ointment - that can combat dry, scaly, cracked or sensitive skin without the harsh chemicals often found in lotions. USF Ointment contains Vitamin F, lanolin, linseed oil and lecithin.

“Lanolin is made up of water and fats, making it a natural emollient to damaged skin. Linseed oil provides essential fatty acids required by every living cell to rebuild and produce new cells. Lecithin, a phospholipid, is a major component of cell membranes. The cell membrane acts as a gatekeeper for incoming and outgoing nutrients and wastes, Lecithin helps cells absorb essential fatty acids. These three ingredients supply oil and moisture to support healthy skin cells. The Vitamin F Complex contains important fatty acids that promote healthy skin and hair. The vitamin F Complex also brings needed oxygen and calcium from the blood to also help promote healthy skin. The natural oils in lanolin and linseed oils help to restore elasticity to dry and brittle skin. Lecithin promotes absorption of these precious oils into the cells. As moisture is restored, the tight feeling, itching, and flaking of skin is often significantly relieved.” – USF Ointment Product Detail

Whole Food Fiber

Fiber is critical to our overall health. It supports heart health, bowel regularity and a healthy gastrointestinal environment, promotes healthy lipid and blood sugar levels, helps support weight management and provides immune support.  Unfortunately, because of the processed nature of food in our country most foods don’t contain adequate fiber. If you are concerned about getting enough fiber in your diet, Standard Process makes a Whole Food Fiber powder that can help ensure that you get enough fiber every day.

“Dietary fiber is indigestible complex carbohydrates found in plant cells. It can be soluble (dissolves in water) or insoluble (cannot be dissolved in water) and both kinds offer important health benefits. Increasing your intake of insoluble dietary fiber can promote bowel regularity while increasing your intake of soluble fiber can support healthy lipid and glucose levels already within a normal range.  High fiber foods contribute to healthy weight management by making you feel full longer and lengthening the time for nutrients to be absorbed. Whole Food Fiber is a good source of both soluble and insoluble fiber. It is also much more than a fiber supplement. It contains whole food ingredients that contribute to health-promoting phytonutrients to: protect against cellular damage; provide protection to the liver and colon; support the function of the liver and the kidneys; and participate in many important chemical reactions in the body.” – Whole Food Fiber Product Detail

Vitamin D

Scientific research is consistently demonstrating the importance of Vitamin D. This essential vitamin not only supports bone and teeth health, it also plays a vital role in immune support. Sun exposure is one of the best ways to get Vitamin D, but during the cloudy and rainy winter months, getting enough sun exposure can be a challenge. Standard Process produces an excellent, whole food supplement for vitamin D called Cataplex D.

“The vitamin D complex found in Cataplex D supplies essential nutrients for maintaining healthy bones, muscle, teeth and epithelial tissue. Vitamin D plays an important role in cell replication and tissue formation and helps maintain a healthy immune system. The vitamin D in Cataplex D increases the availability and absorption of calcium by all tissues. It also helps control blood levels of calcium and phosphate, which together, work at the cellular level to supply energy and the materials for growth and repair. Calcium also plays a significant role in the growth process, influencing reproductive health and keeping bones and teeth at the appropriate density for proper growth and maintenance. Vitamin A is essential to the normal growth process and is also supportive of reproductive health.” – Standard Process Cataplex D Product Detail Sheet

Calcium & Magnesium

Getting enough calcium is a critical nutrition concern for everyone. Calcium is vital for not only bone mineralization, but also maintenance and function of many cell membranes and the proper functioning of many enzyme systems. Supplementing with calcium is an excellent idea to make sure that your body is getting enough of this important nutrient. Standard Process produces a whole food supplement for calcium called Calcium Lactate.

“Calcium and magnesium are of critical important to human health, especially bone health. Bones and teeth contain 99% of the calcium and two-thirds of the magnesium that circulates in the body. Calcium lactate is a highly soluble calcium salt with high bioavailability, making it an excellent source of calcium. Magnesium citrate is also a highly bioavailable form of magnesium. Together these two minerals support a whole host of biological functions including bone formation and growth, muscle contraction, the constriction and relaxation of blood vessels, energy metabolism and much more.” – Standard Process Calcium lactate product detail sheet
